Grab A Racquet And Get Into A Pickle

While it is open to any age, a group of seniors have been playing pickleball for more than two years three times a week in Northborough.

Jim Biel, a regular player, talked to Northborough Patch about the sport and it attraction.

So what is pickle ball, anyway?

According to Wikipedia, it's a sport that combines elements of badminton, ping pong and tennis. It uses a Wiffle ball, and the scoring, which is a bit confusing to the novice pickler, is rotated among the players and play is to 11.

The pickleball league, which is coordinated by the Northborough Senior Center, plays on Mondays at 11:30 a.m., and Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m. Popularity has expanded the sport over to Ellsworth McAfee Park, where players compete on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m.

"Anyone is welcome," said Biel. "Just come on down."
