Algonquin Ranks High in New Best Schools List

U.S. News just released its best schools list.

Included in a top tier with such schools as Weston High, Cohasset High, Belmont High and Sturgis Charter Public School (which ranked at the top), Algonquin trailed right behind Wayland High School and ahead of Arlington.

"U.S. News partnered with the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes for Research (AIR), which implemented U.S. News's rankings methodology. To determine the Best High Schools national rankings, schools were first analyzed at the state level in terms of how well students in each school performed on state assessments, taking into account the test scores of disadvantaged students (low-income, Hispanic, and black), who tend to score lower on tests," reported U.S. News.

Superintendent of Schools Charles Gobron said while it's nice to be ranked high on a best schools list, these ratings often fluctuate from year to year.

"Our primary focus will always be on the students we serve, attempting to use our resources wisely to foster an environment where students can flourish," said Gobron. "We continue to emphasize the importance of 21st century skills so students will be well prepared for the world they will face after graduation. We have been able to provide an excellent high school experience for students because of the excellent support from the Northborough and Southborough communities. We are committed to continuing our focus on academic excellence for each student and are always seeking ways to enhance the educational experience at Algonquin."
