Teen Empowerment Exercise Programs offered at The Core Connection

NORTHBOROUGH _ At The Core Connection, LLC empowering young women through a non-competitive, full body fitness program is the premise behind its Strong Body-Strong Mind fitness program. The program was originally designed for teen and pre-teen girls to encourage and promote self-confidence by demonstrating to the girls how strong and capable they are and that any goal they set for themselves is achievable. A similar program for boys has been recently added.

“It’s so important that girls feel comfortable in their own skin and learn to overcome self-consciousness, and feel strong in both their body and mind,” said The Core Connection Owner Rita Matraia.

This eight (8) week program offers a series of methodical exercises designed to increase flexibility, and improve posture and strength. The yoga class portion of the program promotes an inner calm and focus that can help the girls reduce stress and increase their mental and emotional serenity.

“The yoga will help the girls gain a deeper awareness of their bodies, a higher level of focus and clarity, along with increased strength, flexibility, and endurance,” Matraia said.

In addition to the yoga class, the girls will complete a series of Pilates mat work which focuses on core strength and flexibility.

“Pilates will focus on fundamental body movements designed to strengthen the core in conjunction with improving posture and coordination,” Matraia said. “Fitness and exercise are vitally important to the health and well-being of each and every one of us. This program is designed to give the girls a tremendous foundation for the future, as well as have fun.”

In addition to the Strong Body-Strong Mind program for girls, Matraia, a mother of two sons, recognized a need for a similar program for boys and has since developed it. The Strong Body-Strong Mind program for teen boys (11-14 years old) offers a strength and agility class which teaches them the proper way to train through a full-body workout and how to use their own body weight during cardio drills, core work, and fun stabilizing drills.

“We’ll work on teaching the boys proper alignment, using a safe and effective form,” Matraia said.

In addition to the Strength and Agility Class, a Yoga class for teen boys is also being offered at The Core Connection.

“Upon meeting the instructor Ben Diehl last spring, the boys immediately understood that yoga is not only beneficial for girls but it is paramount to increasing strength and flexibility, preventing injuries during physical activities, and reducing stress while promoting mental clarity for boys,” Matraia continued.

The Yoga Class for teen girls begins on Monday, Sept. 16th at 5 p.m. and the Pilates and Strength Class starts on Tuesday, Sept. 17th at 4:30 p.m. The Strength and Agility Class program for teen boys begins on Tuesday, Sept. 17th at 3:30 p.m. and Yoga for Strength and Agility Class starts on Thursday, Sept. 19th at 4 p.m.   Each class will meet for eight weeks with a total cost of $100. Teens can take one or two classes per week, depending on their interest and schedules.

“We wanted to make these classes accessible, affordable and flexible, so that as many teens as possible can attend,” Matraia said.
