A fire caused considerable damage to the nightclub/restaurant on Monday.
A fire that started in the mulch and ripped up through the wall into the roof caused a considerable amount of damage to the Celtic Tavern on Monday morning. With its digital sign reading "Thank you, Northborough Fire Department," the Celtic was forced to close this week due to the damage. Trucks from Service Master lined the parking lot the next day, and word is that the Celtic Tavern hopes to be open by mid next-week, according to senior bartender Heather Borge Leroux. "We are still in the process of cleaning," she said. "Service Master has control of the whole building right now, cleaning every inch with a find tooth comb. Talk about a spring cleaning." Construction to rebuild the wall, celing and room that were damaged has started, too…

The FD responded to alarms at the Celtic Tavern this morning.
A fire that originated from a mulch bed has caused extensive damage to the Celtic Tavern, according to Northborough Fire Chief David Durgin. Northborough Fire Department responded to a smoke alarm that alerted them at 6:45 a.m. on Monday morning. When crews arrived, smoke was visible from the building and a working fire alarm was transmitted for additional help. Sounding a second alarm at 7:10 a.m., crews from Marlborough, Westborough, Shrewsbury and Southborough responded with mutual aid. By 7:40 a.m., the fire was knocked down, but Durgin said it had caused significant damage "reaching or exceeding $50,000." There were no injuries. The fire, which started in the mulch outside the building, climbed the wall facing Belmont Street and …

The Celtic Tavern hosts a big event for a big cause.
Alexis Krieger Dascoli, who is a small business owner in Marlborough, has helped with many fundraisers over the past years, and says she's never said no to those who asked for help. This time, the cause really hits home. Dascoli donated her graphic services to an event to benefit the One Fund, which was set up to help out the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. The event is on June 23 at the Celtic Tavern. Called 617 Boros Unite for Boston, and it'll run from noon to 10 p.m. It is being organized by Emily Gauvin and Mike Walsh, who owns the Celtic Tavern. Dascoli was originally contacted about the event by Gauvin, who Walsh's girlfriend. "There is a group of us from the Celtic, which I named Team 617, organizing this fundraiser," said …

Patch visited the Celtic Tavern in Northborough to learn how to make a few Irish drinks in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so in honor of the holiday, Patch visited the Celtic Tavern in Northborough to learn how to make a few Irish drinks. We learned to make an Irish car bomb, Black and Tan, and a green Celtic Tavern special martini. Watch the video above and you too can learn to make these Irish specialties. Keep in mind, the Celtic's got a full lineup of live music that continues throughout the weekend (starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday), and a menu that includes Irish classics such as Shepherd's Pie and corned beef and cabbage. Its Facebook page is consistently updated with info. And say hi to Paulie for us.

A couple's argument spills into the middle of Route 9, resulting in a crash.
A man and woman were hit by a car going westbound on Route 9 in Northborough while crossing the street on Route 9. According to police, the crash was the result of an accident that spilled out from Motel 6 onto Route 9 across from the Celtic Tavern. Both victims, who sustained injuries, are from Providence, RI. Witnesses say the argument started in the parking lot of Motel 6. The woman walked across the divided, two-lane highway, sitting on the Jersey barrier when the male came out to talk with her. "Apparently, the man convinced her to go back," said Chief Mark Leahy, "and when she started to come back she was hit in the middle of the lanes by an oncoming car." The male was also hit and landed against the barrier. "The person who hit them…

Dale LePage joins the Bobby Gadoury Trio at the Celtic Tavern for a night of swing, jazz and standards.
Singer and comedian Dale LePage, voted male entertainer of the year for Central Massachusetts, and host of the new TV3 show "WOOTube" is debuting at the Celtic Tavern on Saturday, Jan. 28, along with Bobby Gadoury and Thomas Spears. Northborough Patch asked LePage a rapidfire five questions. NP: How'd you get interested in singing the style of music you sing? DL: I will sing anything as long as someone will listen. I am what you would call an attention whore. But seriously, I have always loved the smooth crooner style of Dean Martin and Sintara and Tony Bennett that was what we played around my house growing up. And also watching the old classic movies on TCM. NP: Do you think popular music lacks crooners to look up to? DL: Not at all…

Look out. It's Friday the 13th.
Our morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations. 1. For you superstitious folks who mark such things, it is indeed Friday the 13th (as if you didn't know). According to Wikipedia, "One theory states that it is a modern amalgamation of two older superstitions: that thirteen is an unlucky number and that Friday is an unlucky day." 2. We really want to know: who's got the best flapjacks in town? It takes a second to vote, and we're asking you to do so. 3. The Crow Hop Blues Band is making its Celtic Tavern debut tonight. 4. Fuzion, on the other hand, is rocking through dance hits of the '80s and '90s with a couple of sets at JJ…
