Thursday, Jan. 17 Thomas J. Reid, 69, of 2 Williamsburg Ct., Apt. 1, Shrewsbury, was arrested by Massachusetts State Police and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (second offense) and speeding. Judge Robert Calagione released Reid on personal recognizance and scheduled a pretrial hearing for March 8. Ann M. Benoit, 39, of 249 Cambridge St., Worcester, was arrested by Shrewsbury police and charged with possession of a class B substance (subsequent offense). Judge Robert Calagione dismissed the charges at the request of prosecutors. Anthony F. The following cases were heard in Westborough District Court.
Wednesday, Jan. 16 Sudip K. Sengupta, 30, of 55 Commons St., Shrewsbury, was arrested by Shrewsbury police and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, destruction of property over $250, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. Judge David Locke ordered Sengupta held on $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Feb. 8. According to police, an officer spotted Sengupta, who was known for having outstanding warrants and who drove at the officer as he attempted to make an arrest. Monday, Jan. 14 A judge ordered a Shrewsbury man held on $1,000 cash bail following his arraignment Monday on charges that he scammed a local church parish out of nearly $500 by pretending to return Christmas trees that he never purchased. Bernard H. Hosking, 50, of 24 Artemas St., Shrewsbury, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Shrewsbury police to face charges of larceny over $250 by single scheme and larceny under $250 by single scheme. Police allege that on several dates during December, Hosking went to the Christmas tree sale run by the Trinity Episcopal Church and asked for refunds for trees he claimed to have purchased recently. Thursday, Jan. 10 Charles M. Leffler, 82, of 14 Fay Mountain Rd., Grafton, was arraigned in on four counts of statutory rape of a child. Judge Vito Virzi released Leffler on personal recognizance, ordering him to have no contact with anyone under 16 years of age. According to court documents, the victim recently came forward to police and said she first met Leffler when she took riding lessons from him at a stable on Upton St. She later worked with Leffler both there and at a business that offered pony rides. Leffler is due back in court on Feb. 13 for a pretrial hearing. Anthony D. Masielo, 35, of 3 Leland Hill Rd., S. Wednesday, Jan. 9 Erin Maguire, 24, of 169 East St., Upton, was arrested by Grafton police and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Judge Robert Calagione released Maguire on personal recognizance and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Feb. 25. According to a police report, Maguire was arrested after police responded to a report of a road rage incident in progress on Route 140 near the Grafton Flea Market. A second driver said he attempted to pass Maguire's car, which he told police was traveling well below the speed limit, and that Maguire's car struck his as he passed. Monday, Jan. 7 Oscar Mendoza Jr., 17, of 7 Jane St., Shrewsbury, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Shrewsbury police to face charges of keeping a noisy and disorderly house, larceny under $250, being a person under 20 procuring and possessing alcohol and receiving stolen property. Judge Vito Virzi continued without a finding for one year the disorderly house and procuring liquor charges, ordering Mendoza to undergo supervised probation until Aug. 15, 2013 and to write a letter of apology to Shrewsbury police by Jan. 31. Grafton, was arrested by Shrewsbury police and charged with two counts of assault and battery, disturbing the peace, breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony. Judge Robert Calagione ordered Thomas held on $1,000 cash bail and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Feb. 21. According to a police report, officers were first called to an address on Arbor Drive just after midnight on New Year's Eve for a reported domestic disturbance. Thursday, Dec. 27 A Westborough man arrested in August in connection with a night-long vandalism and theft spree was sentenced Thursday to two years probation and ordered to undergo continued counseling and treatment. Lucas B. Houghton, 21, of 4 Jacob Amsden Rd., Westborough, faced multiple charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime, wanton destruction of property and larceny from a building in connection with a rash of incidents on Aug. 27 in which Houghton and a 15-year-old male from Westborough slashed window screens, spray painted fences and broke outdoor lamps.
