We Learned: Buildings Going Up on Main, Strange Object at Assabet, Daughtry Rocked JJ's

Maybe you missed it? Here's a tight little package of stuff Northborough Patch covered this past week.

Despite the storm (you remember that storm, right?), the Boy and Girl Scouts of Northborough pulled off a massive collection for the Northborough Food Pantry last week. Town residents donated bags of goods. American Idol rocker Daughtry put on a small set at JJ's Sports Bar, courtesy of WXLO, on Monday night and posed with his fans. We've got video. Cops removed a suspicious looking object from the entrance of Assabet Valley Regional High School this week. The journey depicts winding, aimless months of scrounging, bartering, walking, ingenuity and luck that surely brought Berberian closer to death than he ever knew. Berberian, a well-known and likable character in Northborough as the longtime owner of Berberian Farms, said he rarely …

Former-Marine Says 'That's Not Why I Joined'

As the Marines celebrate their 236th birthday, a Northborough woman talks about her service to the country.

Anne R. Falco attended Thursday's lunch and service to commemorate veterans at the Senior Center on Thursday. Along with some 50 other Northborough residents, she was proud to have served. Still, she admits when she joined the Marines, she had intended to go to war, or at least out of the country. Falco enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and was active until 1945, which was of course during World War II, when Falco intended to "do her part." That part was spent in Washington DC. "They wouldn't let me out of the country," said Falco. "They put you where they want to put you. What I did was I took care of the women in the Marines and fixed their hair and stuff. I didn't want to do that. I wanted to go into combat. I never felt it was important …
