With only 38 more days left of school until summer vacation, it’s time to start looking into summer camps if you haven’t already as spaces fill up quickly. Sports, adventure, and nature based camps highlight the list.
If you are trying to find the right camp for your child this summer, here are some suggestions—some tried and true and a few out of the box. Please contact the individual camps directly with specific questions, to arrange a visit to the facility, or to confirm schedules and fees. Northborough Recreation continues to offer a wide array of camp opportunities for all age levels. Offered throughout the summer are Club Assabet, Kids Discovery and Teen Scene. Club Assabet is for ages three through five and is a half day program that incorporates games, storytime, arts and crafts, and water play from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday at the cost of $90. An alleged assault took place during a soccer game at Teamworks in Northborough.
A player is alleging that he was assaulted during a soccer game at Teamworks earlier this week. On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Northborough police responded to a report of an assault at the athletic center at 185 Otis St. The victim said he had played a soccer match on the team ABF, which took on the Black Stars that day. At one point during the game, a player from the Black Stars "had words with the a player from ABF's team," said police. While the referee was attending to the argument, a Black Stars player ran over and punched the ABF player in the face. According to police, the victim received a black eye on the left side and some dental damage. The victim said he had done nothing to provoke the incident, which was confirmed by a witness. The …

Worcester—Worcester State women's soccer student-athlete Nikki Scott from Berlin has been selected as a Capital One Division III Academic Third-Team All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Scott is also a staff member at Teamworks in Northborough. The honor for Scott makes her the first WSU student-athlete to be named an Academic All-American since baseball standout Eric Swedberg was distinguished in 2002. Scott was one of 12 defenders to be recognized on the squad as she joined Castleton State's Courtney Chadburn (N. Clarendon, VT), WPI's Hailey Taylor (Colusa, CA), Endicott's Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, MA) and MIT's Kaitlyn Nealson (Yorktown Heights, NY) as the representatives from District I that …

LaCava wants to be a hockey player when he grows up. He's three, and he already knows this. Who knows, could be true. Didn't Tiger Woods know he wanted to golf at that age?
As the Youth Program Coach at Teamworks, Nichole Hallett coaches more than 100 kids in different sports each week. Some of them stand out, and one, in particular, she feels should be "athlete of the week." Jackson LaCava, who just turned three, is the youngest athlete is Hallett's class, but is a "great listener, very coordinated and always has a smile on his face." LaCava attends Miss Tanya's Preschool in Westborough. Two businesses changed its managers, St. Bernadette's was granted a one day liquor license and the town set the prices for plowing public ways this winter.
In a short but compact meeting, the Board of Selectmen approved new managers, discussed the town's free cash account and authorized a gift program for the Rec. Center. Recreational Sales: Allie Lane, director of Northborough's Parks and Recreation Department, was given approval to receive gifts from those who wish to donate to an upcoming yard sale to benefit the Rec. Northborough police chase down a drunk driver early Friday morning.
A Worcester man was arrested early Friday morning after driving drunk from Teamworks in Northborough, and refusing to stop for police. Carlos Guerrero, 29, 374 Lake Ave., Worcester, was arrested in Shrewsbury by Northborough police early Friday morning for driving drunk and refusing to stop for police for miles. Northborough police arrived at Teamworks on Otis Street at 1:35 a.m. on Friday after receiving a call from an employee who said that Guerrero was "very intoxicated and walking to a truck." The employee, according to the police report, offered to call a cab for Guerrero a number of times, but he refused. Teamworks has open signups for a new volleyball league.
Teamworks is now accepting signups for teams for the fall high school girls volleyball league, which starts Nov. 4 and continues on Fridays for seven weeks. There are eight players per team maximum, and the team cost is $360. Individual players can also pay $65 and they will be assigned to a team.
