The Algonquin Regional High School girls basketball team fell 34-31 to Wachusett on Tuesday at Clark University.

After trailing through the second half, the T-Hawks looked like they make a spectacular comeback when they narrowed the deficit to three with seconds remaining.  A missed Algonquin three sealed the victory for Wachusett, who will advance to the division championship.  "They were a really good team and we just had too many missed opportunities," coach Ron Jones said after the game.

Threat of EEE and West Nile Cancels Nighttime Events, Including Sports and Applefest Fireworks

After much consideration, and a recommendation from the Department of Public Health, the fireworks ... and nighttime sports ... are canceled in town.

After last week's threat of eastern equine encephalitis was raised to "high" in Northborough (and "critical in Westborough), by the Department of Public Health, local authorities met to discuss the appropriate response to ensure the town's safety. Northborough's police chief, fire chief, health agent, superintendent, the public schools' athletic director and the town administrator met with others to consider steps that could be taken in reaction to the elevated mosquito-borne illness risk level.  It was determined, unanimously, that nighttime …

I like the olympics but I wish it weren't ALL DAY LONG 7 DAYS A WEEK on my favorite net work and I wish it would last only 1 week not two. I am sure I am going to get booed on this...Sorry everyone. On the positive, I have loved seeing Phelps, Lochte, Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt, Dana Vollmer and our incredible FAB FIVE gymnasts. So I guess I am talking out of both sides of my mouth.   more ›

Warm Winter May Open Juniper Early

Golf courses across New England are either open, or opening earlier due to unseasonably warm winter weather.

The lack of snow has been bad news for ski resorts and hardware stores, but great news for ice cream shops, farms and golf courses. Some golf resorts in New England managed to stay open all year this year due to the unseasonably warm winter, such as Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge, reported NECN.com. And others are planning on opening earlier than usual, including Juniper Hill Golf Course right here in Northborough. Juniper Hill, which encompasses two 18-hole courses, closed for the season on Christmas Eve Day, but will "probably open back up on March 15," according to Rita Cappello, outing coordinator. "Oh, people are definitely calling to ask if we're open," said Cappello. "We've gotten a lot of calls, especially with no snow. …
