Where People Drive the Speediest

We asked where drivers speed the most in Northborough. Our chief of police weighs in.

Earlier this month, Patch asked Northborough drivers to "sound off" about where people tend to speed the most in town. Among the answers were Davis Ave. and Maple Street. According to Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy, since Jan. 1 of this year, 1,278 speeding citations have been issued in Northborough. And in 2010, 1,399 were issued citations for speeding in Northborough, up to 1,773 in 2011. "The most heavily enforced streets are Church Street and Davis Street," said Leahy. So where do the cops hide with the radar guns? Leahy, of course, won't divulge the officers' favorite spots, but added, "they are driven by complaints from residents. "

Davis Street has 3 speed limits when traveling from 135 to rt 20 and of course visa-versa. Many times cars travel in excess of 40 mph in the 35 mph zone. It is a good thing that the police are active on this street. However, it seems to me that the speed limit should be brought down for the safety of the residents.   more ›

People coming down from Chatfield Notch ignoring the stop sign. They put Northgate Road residents, Proctor School parents bringing children to school and picking them up, walkers, joggers, children playing, pets walking all in danger.
