Local weather expert Jim Arnold said look out for a chance of severe weather.
A disturbance plans on swinging its way through southern New England on Saturday afternoon, bringing with it some showers and thunderstorms, according to Jim Arnold, weather specialist with the Shrewsbury Emergency Management Agency. That means, he said, that tomorrow could mean some isolated severe weather for the area. "Right now there are no indications of severe thunderstorms," Arnold said on Friday morning, "but should we see any significant sunshine before the showers arrive here, the atmosphere could destabilize enough to produce an isolated severe thunderstorm or two across the region. Northborough will join Shrewsbury, Grafton and Westborough to form a new district for veterans' services.
Northborough voted to formally join and share resources for veterans by forming a regional Veterans District. Westborough recently voted to join the district, which will officially go into effect on July 1 of this year to start FY2014. Shrewsbury and Grafton have also voted to do so. Shrewsbury, Northborough and Grafton have shared Veterans' Agent Richard Perron, with administrative support in each town, since 1999. Perron originally planned to retire in April, but will "stick around to the end of the fiscal year," said Assistant Town Administrator Kim Hood, who explained the change to the district at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday. Also on Saturday, the Sharks host the Providence Bruins on at 7 p.m. with a special performance by Probable Cause presented by Columbia Tech to benefit the 15-40 Connection. Probable Cause performs from 6-6:45 behind Sharks Zone (behind the bar overlooking the ice) before the Sharks hit the ice vs. the Bruins. Another person has died after injuries sustained in a crash on Saturday night.
A North Grafton woman is dead after a crash on Route 20 Saturday evening. On Dec. 8th at approximately 8:30 pm the Shrewsbury Police responded to the intersection of Route 20 and Grafton St. for a report of a two car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Shrewsbury Police determined that a 2004 Audi A-4 was traveling East on Route 20 when it collided with a 2007 Honda Civic which was traveling north on Grafton St. crossing Route 20. Steven Cabral of Hudson, 25 years old, operated the Audi. The Honda was operated by Elaine Barber, 60, Snow Road, North Grafton. Shrewsbury Police, Shrewsbury Fire and U-Mass paramedics were at the scene and both operators were transported U-Mass University Campus Hospital. Barber was pronounced dead a short …
