LETTER: Superintendent Addresses Newtown Tragedy

Superintendent of Schools Charles Gobron issued a statement to address the community.

The following was sent by Charles Gobron, superintendent of school, Friday, in response to the mass shooting that occurred at an elementary school in Newtown, CT. We are all very concerned about the situation that happened today in Newtown, CT.  Our thoughts go out to the entire Newtown community.  This afternoon I have been receiving calls and emails from several colleagues and I have spoken with safety officials within our two communities.  We were fortunate that the Northborough-Southborough Public Schools hosted an emergency management workshop this summer attended by over 100 local educators and public safety officials. State Police Asking Public's Help in Finding Road Rage Shooter

A shooting happened today on Route 495, and the police are looking for leads. Were you traveling in the area?

Submitted by the Massachusetts State Police On Sunday at 12:17 p.m., an apparent road rage incident on Route 495 northbound in Merrimac, MA, resulted in a 16-year-old female being shot one time in the upper arm. Troopers from the State Police Barracks in Newbury responded to the area and are currently securing a number of areas as potential crime scenes. Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Essex County, Crime Scene Services Section, and Ballistics Section are assisting with the investigation. Troopers continue to search for the suspect vehicle described as a white, Honda Accord with tinted windows, bearing a red, white, and blue registration plate, with a white female operator who was wearing sunglasses. Teens Shoot Each Other with BB Guns

Two teenagers were transported to UMass after being shot with a BB gun.

Charges are pending against two Northborough 13-year-olds who were shooting one another with BB guns on Wednesday, May 25, according to a police report. The Northborough Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call reporting that a victim was shot by a BB gun. It was discovered that two juveniles were shooting each other. One was struck in the leg and the other in the mouth, said police. Both teens were transported to UMass Marlborough by ambulance, and charges are pending against both.
