Senate Passes Resolution to Overturn Citizens United Ruling

Lead sponsor Sen. Jamie Eldridge said "the problem is real, resulting in strong grassroots effort across the Commonwealth coming together."

Jamie Eldridge The Senate on Thursday passed a bipartisan resolution calling for the United States Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, restoring the first amendment and ending unlimited outside spending in elections.  “This is a growing problem that needs to be fixed,” Senate President Therese Murray (D-Plymouth) said. “Corporate spending has reached exorbitant levels and it is destroying the civility of the political process. Senate Approves the Jobs Bill

The Senate passed the jobs bill on Thursday.

Eldridge Wins Funding for Innovative Anti-Poverty Programs in State Budget

Sen. Eldridge announced that the final conference committee budget included funding for two innovative anti-poverty programs.

Town Asks Legislators, "Make Our Priorities Your Priority"

State representatives visited the Board of Selectmen to discuss the town's annual priority list. Money for special education and roads tops this year's list.

To avoid having important issues get bogged down in a sea of requests, Northborough has taken to—for the past four years or so—creating a "legislative list of priorities." During the budgeting season each year, the Board of Selectmen and administration fine tunes a list of what they deem the most important for the town in order. They compile a detailed letter, mail it off to the town's representatives and senators, and organize a sit-down, which happened at the board meeting on Monday night. Sens.
