Assabet Receives $33 Million from the State

The technical high school has received $33.1 million from the state and a visit from State Treasurer and MSBA Chairman Steven Grossman.

The Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School has received $33.1 million toward needed repairs and upgrades while officials praised the school. "There is no better institution in our area than this school. The Superintendent and staff use all of their resources well, and there is no limit to what these students can achieve," said State Treasurer and Massachusetts School Building Authority Chairman Steven Grossman before signing a facsimile of the check to the schools last week. The funds represent the state's portion of $62.4 million in repairs and improvements to the school. Green Repair Complete at the Melican School

The new boilers are blaring at the Melican School.

Thanks to a grant from the Massachusetts Building Authority, the boiler project at the Melican Middle School is now completed. Up and running since Sept. 11, the new energy-efficient boiler system was installed for just over $309,000. "It's state of the art," said Cheryl Levesque, business director for the school district. "If you had only seen the old room, and now see the new room. It's very exciting." The main goals of the MSBA’s Green Repair Program include improving learning environments for students and teachers, reduce energy use, and generate cost savings for districts.
