If You Lost Power This Morning, Here's Why

Approximately 2,000 National Grid customers lost power in Northborough on Monday.

Northborough residents were questioning on Monday morning why their power was out. Tweets such as the one by @MassJokrr were wondering why there was no electricity on Green Street, for instance. According to National Grid, a piece of equipment on a pole on Bearfoot Road malfunctioned at 9:45 a.m. To complete repairs, National Grid workers had to open a circuit breaker at a nearby substation, interrupting service to approximately 2,000 Northborough customers and 20 Berlin customers. Service was restored to 1,220 of the Northborough customers at 10:10 a.m., with the remainder coming back on at 10:27 a.m.

No one panicked and the crowd of people cheered when the lights were turned back on, said one shopper.  A manager on the loud speaker said the generator would be turned on and people could continue shopping, which made the crowd cheer again. Though the generator powered most of the lights and cash registers, some areas of the store had dimmed lights like the produce area. The other stores in the …

More Snow Likely for the Weekend

Northborough could get some more snow this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Worcester County, including Northborough. The storm, which may stretch from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, will start with heavy rainful, according to NWS, but could blanket the area with about an inch of snow.  NWS predicted the storm will be a mix of rain and snow.
