Batter Up: Northborough Baseball and Softball Opening Day is Saturday

This year, the NBSA partners with Birthday Wishes.

A now, we can officially get excited about summer. There's nothing like the crack of the bat, the snap of the ball against leather, and the cheers from the stands; baseball is officially back in Northborough for the season. The Northborough Baseball and Softball Association kicks off its opening day on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Field. The teams line up at the Peaslee School starting at 9 a.m., parading to the field for a ceremony that starts at 9:30 a.m. Activities run all day and include mini-games, home run contests, bouncy houses, a DJ, obstacle course, face painting, hot air balloon, BBQ, raffles and more. NBSA Treasurer Quits After Allegations of Misappropriated Funds

Police are investigating the misappropriation of funds.

The 13 board members of the Northborough Baseball and Softball Association voted unanimously last week to ask police to pursue criminal charges after allegations that former treasurer Edward R. Tache misappopriated as much as $75,000 in funds, according to the Telegram and Gazette. Tache, who is a Northborough resident and treasurer for the association for the last four years, submitted his resignation over the weekend. After the board met, the association's president, James Forbrush, visited the Northborough Police Department to discuss holding an investigation.

LETTER: Sean Durkin Jr., 'Questioning the Direction of Northborough Ball'

Sean Durkin Jr. responds to the wave of letters regarding his dad, Sean Durkin Sr., who was recently voted off the Northborough Baseball and Softball Association Board.

Written and submitted by Sean Durkin Jr., Northborough Anyone who knows my father, Sean Durkin, knows that on practically any given afternoon, he can be found at Northborough’s Memorial Field. This has been the case since I can remember, for more than the past 20 years. He has contributed countless hours to the children of Northboro and the betterment of Northboro baseball. To list a few things: the lights, dugouts, fencing, scoreboards, irrigation systems, sheds, batting cages, flag poles, bullpens, and the very field itself were built in no small part by the help of my father and volunteers like him. He has coached from Little League up to Senior Babe Ruth. He is there spring, summer, and fall. Hell, he even plows now and then in the …
