With Mother's Day being Sunday, May 12, it's a good time to recognize mothers. So, the topic of our photo contest this week is, fittingly, Mother's Day. We’ll take submissions until 5 p.m. May 13. The winner, chosen by Patch editors, will be announced on May 14. The prize? A $25 gift card. We know it can be hard to choose just one, so you may enter as many photos as you'd like. If you like a particular photo, voice your support for it in the comments. Eligibility is limited to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. Pat Bigelow from Bigelow Nurseries has the perfect gift idea for mom.
Flowers. It's probably the most popular gift people get their moms for Mother's Day, and Bigelow Nurseries has plenty - of the potted variety. Cascading over 1,300 acres in six towns, Bigelow Nurseries' hub store in Northborough is popping with herbs, shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetable plants and more. It would be easy to find a gift for mom there—they've also got a gift shop inside, and items such as benches and birdbaths—but owner Pat Bigelow was particularly fond of a certain offering at the nursery for mom this year. When Ruth Reeve, a Northborough resident, nominated Julie Stanwood for the Patch Mother's Day Makeover contest, others quickly seconded the recommendation. "Julie is an amazing mother of five children, two of whom have special needs," wrote Reeve. "She manages their busy schedules usually single handedly, as her husband works out of state. Sports, Scouts, school, therapy - she is an active participant in everything they do."
