The Peaslee School received three critical violations during a health inspection last month.
During a routine health inspection last month conducted by Health Agent Jamie Terry at the Peaslee School, three critical violations were noted, as Northborough Patch reported in its inspections update. Readers, particularly parents, quickly questioned the nature of these violations. The three critical violations Terry noted were: an employee cooked pasta, stirred it and tasted it with ungloved hand; the sanitizer strength exceeded acceptable levels; and a refrigerator used to store condiments and vegetables was above 41 degrees (which is the highest level it should be). Lunch prices will go up slightly next school year at Algonquin.
Echoing the vote of the Northborough School Committee on school lunch prices for Northborough public schools, the Regional School Committee also voted in favor of the increase for Algonquin Regional High School. The next school year, Northborough's school lunches will increase slightly, the first increase since February of 2009. Based on conversations between Maura Feeley, food service director, and Superintendent of Schools Charles Gobron, prices for student, staff, milk and deli prices will increase for the 2012-2013 school year. Presently, the prices are: $2.50 student lunch; $3.25 staff lunch, $.50 milk; and $2.75 for the deli. Cafeteria food changes with the times, and Northborough is an innovative leader.
If the idea of school cafeteria lunches conjures images of mystery meat and soggy green beans, well, you haven’t been to a cafeteria in Northborough or Southborough lately. There, you’re more likely to be able to fill your tray with something you might buy at a café, a hummus wrap, a fresh salad, whole wheat pasta, or sesame noodles with tofu. It’s all part of change that’s a coordination between kitchen managers, experienced staff and someone new to the Northborough-Southborough School District and in a new position: Maura Feeley, director of food service.
