K-9 Search at Algonquin Finds No Drugs

The announced search yielded no drug findings at the high school; plans are underway for an unannounced search.

This morning at 9:45 a.m., five members of the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit, accompanied by Northborough and Southborough Police Officers and school administrators, conducted a search of Algonquin Regional High School for the presence of illegal drugs, said Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy in a press release. Five State Police narcotics detection dogs, each paired with a school administrator and police officer, were used and the entire search took 16 minutes to accomplish. "I am very pleased to report that no illegal drugs were found, either inside the school building or in vehicles parked in the school parking lots," said Leahy. For quality assurance, test drugs were concealed in a specific locker to test each dog’s skills. …

State Troopers Recognized for Helping in NY, NJ After Hurricane Sandy

"There's nothing that I can compare to what I saw down there," said one of the 25 troopers that helped out after Sandy devastated nearby states.

Before Hurricane Sandy's full scope of devastation in New York and New Jersey was even known, 25 men and women from the Massachusetts State Police were on their way to assist those who had been displaced from their homes. "When I reached out to ask if the state police would be willing to field a group of 25 people, I already knew the answer," Undersecretary for Homeland Security and Director of MEMA, Kurt Schwartz said in a press conference in Framingham Monday afternoon. "The answer was a resounding yes." One of the troopers was Brian Dunn, who works out of the South Boston barracks. "There's nothing that I can compare to what I saw down there," said the 28-year veteran of the force. "We were there when they came home for the first time. …

The Mystery of the Morning Choppers

Why were helicopters flying overhead on Wednesday morning?

On Wednesday morning, Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as email, buzzed with the question, "Why are there helicopters overhead? What is going on?" Some mentioned that the helicopters were over the Melican Middle School, certainly always a cause for concern ... or curiosity. Northborough police noted that National Grid had sent an alert indicating the company would be doing fly-overs to check power lines on Wednesday. A call to National Grid contradicted the information, as a spokesperson indicated that, "We had nothing in the Northborough area today. There were some in Lawrence, but not Northborough." Massachusetts State Police confirmed that the helicopters were part of the funeral service for State Trooper Matthew Murray, who, at 44, …

Unfortunately, in the late 70s and 80s, the panic began when certain "angry" special interest groups raised money and got the word out to their reps and senators, etc. As is usually the case in America, freedoms and constitutional law were sidestepped in the name of hysteria. And that's how "implied consent" laws came into being.   more ›
