The ARHS 2011 boys lacrosse team received their Central Massachusetts Championship plaques.
During halftime of the game on Saturday, Oct. 8, of Algonquin versus Hudson, the 2011 Algonquin Boys Varsity Lacrosse team stepped up to receive their plaques for last season's Central Massachusetts Championship. The boys finished up with a 20-5 record for the season, and defeated St. John's in the Central Massachusetts District Final, making the team the first Central Massachusetts public school to advance to the Division 2 State Finals. Algonquin defeated St. John's of Shrewsbury 10-9 in overtime at rain soaked Foley Stadium,winning the Boys Division 2 Central Mass. Lacrosse Championship. The Tomahawks met Western Mass. champ Longmeadow, at Foley Stadium in Worcester in a state semi-final match, making them Division II State champs. A win this Friday at 7 p.m. against Medfield at Foley Stadium would give the Tomahawk boys the state title, making it the first time in program history, and a first for Central Massachusetts.

The Algonquin boys pulled out another win in lacrosse to head to the state finals.
He calls 'em the "Cardiac Kids," and they pulled out another overtime win on Tuesday, ending with 9-8 against west champions Longmeadow. But Coach Luongo said "this was no easy task." With a 6-1 lead midway through the second quarter, Longmeadow scored two late goals to end the half at 6-3. In a "crazy third quarter" that "had us in a bit of a tizzy," Longmeadow shot four unanswered goals, making it 7-6. "Longmeadow is a perennial tournament team," said Luongo, "and we knew they would make a run at us that they did. The boys lacrosse team beat St. John's on Saturday to take the Central Massachusetts division title.
The boys lacrosse team at Algonquin Regional High School were crowned the Central Massachusetts Division Two champs on Saturday when it beat rivals St. John's in a tight 10-9 game that included overtime. "The effort by the boys on this team has been outstanding all season, especially during the playoff run," said Coach Rich Luongo. The team is now 19-4 overall and will take on Longmeadow on Tuesday, June 14, in the state semi-finals at 7 p.m. at Foley Stadium in Worcester. Algonquin lost to Longmeadow early in the season 8-4, "but we are a different team now and I am sure they will be taking us seriously when we match up on Tuesday," said Luongo. Algonquin's boys lacrosse team is now 10-3 (8-0 Mid-Wach-A) and has qualified for a tournament berth with seven games left in the season.
