"People are going to beat me up on both sides of this," he told the Telegram's Clive McFarlane.
On Thursday, the Northborough Police Department, in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police, conducts a dog-sniffing drug search of Algonquin Regional High School. It cannot be said that the students were not forewarned. Worcester Telegram and Gazette columnist Clive McFarlane discussed Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy's motivation for the upcoming search, a decision he says was not made lightly. "Chief Leahy’s decision is a reflection of the increasing struggle by educators and the communities in which they work to balance students’ right to privacy with school safety," wrote McFarlane.

A subject escaped after an attempted house break on Wednesday night. Northborough Police responded to the call around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at a home at 136 Davis St., where someone had attempted to force the front door open. The home, which was in complete darkness, appeared empty. However, when the suspect attempted to force the door open, the occupant turned on the lights after hearing a loud noise, said police. The subject fled when the lights came home. Massachusetts State Police's K9 unit was called to assist in the search, which led to a location on the side of the road where it appears the vehicle had been parked.
