Gov. Deval Patrick on Tuesday ended specualtion that he might kill the mandatory sentencing bill he had objected to but the Legislature supported. Calling the bill "a good start," Patrick said he would sign it but wants to see changes made to it in the next legislative session. "I still believe there is a necessary role for judicial discretion when it comes to sentencing and many of the advocates of this bill have pledged to support that next year," he wrote on his website Tuesday. "The senate president and the speaker have pledged to return to the subject of mandatory minimum sentencing early in the next session. I take them at their word." Tracey L. Denorscia, 40, of 2 Veterans Circle, South Grafton, was arrested Jan. 22 in Northborough by Northborough police and charged with larceny over $250. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to Feb. 16. George E. Buzzell, 40, of 17 Chapin St., Northborough, was arrested Jan. 22 by State Police in Shrewsbury and charged with OUI drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to March 5. Korene C. Sorensen, 48, of 82 Church St. Apt. 3B, Northborough, was arrested Jan. 21 by Northboro police in Northboro and charged with OUI liquor, fourth offense, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. This week, the judge saw cases of assault and battery.
The following cases involved Northborough residents or occurred in Northborough, or both. Annmarie Johnson, 39, of 245 Brewer St., Northborough, was summonsed into court by Northborough police Sept. 25 and charged with assault and battery. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case until Oct. 26. Dominique Z. Martin, 33, 6008 Avalon Dr., Northborough, was arrested Sept. 26 by Northborough police and charged with assault and battery for an incident involving a 10-year-old child. She was released on $1,000 bail and ordered to stay away from the victim. The case is continued to Oct. 5.
