Indian Meadow Neighbors Successfully Bat Away Baseball Tenants

A collective effort on the part of residents of the Indian Meadow neighborhood results in a "no" from the ZBA.

Indian Meadow Drive residents, and neighbors in surrounding streets, were successful in their endeavor to keep Ruffnecks baseball from moving into their neighborhood. Drawing rousing applause, the Zoning Board of Appeals denied the request of New England Baseball to purchase the land from IM Gold, which owns Indian Meadows Golf Club, to turn into a four-diamond complex and the home of the Ruffnecks. The 1.9 million deal was drawn up in June, and proposed to turn the property into a baseball training complex. More than 150 residents turned out for a continuation of a public hearing at the Northborough Free Library on Tuesday night. Despite New England Baseball's willingness to adapt its proposal, including removing lights on some of the …

If you read up on town history Davis Street did fight Indian Meadow Dr but it was zoned residential and there are only certain things you can put on a residential lot. Houses are one use allowed legally. The golf course is also zoned residential and must revert back to residential when not a golf course. The ZBA did a good job following the zoning laws which are put in place to protect residents …   more ›

Baseball Organization Revises Plans After Neighborhood Concerns

New England Baseball Enterprises, which has signed a purchase and sale to buy land at Indian Meadows, has revised its plans after meeting with concerned neighbors.

Since Indian Meadows announced its plans to sell property to a baseball organization, neighbors have voice opposition and concern. A purchase and sale agreement for $1.9 million was been drawn up between IM Gold, which owns Indian Meadows, and New England Baseball Enterprises. If the purchase goes through, the land would become the home of the New England Ruffnecks, a baseball development program for children between 13-18.  Since the land is classified under Mass. General Law as recreational land, Northborough, and possibly Westborough, have a "right to refusal" if an offer is on the table. The possibility is still being discussed among committees and boards in town, and Town Administrator John Coderre, at the Board of Selectmen's most …

Town Needs More Info Before It Acts on Indian Meadows Purchase

It's an involved, tricky financial and municipal situation; the Board of Selectmen, and town, needs more facts before it can begin to decide.

"You know everything we know," insisted Town Administrator Town Coderre. In a jam-packed meeting room Monday night, the Board of Selectmen discussed issues surrounding the possible purchase of the Northborough portion of land that is presently part of Indian Meadows. The meeting did not include a public hearing, as the board is still seeking information on what they call an involved and potentially confusing matter. The town says it needs an updated agreement, and more information, before it can begin to discuss the possibility of purchasing the land. A purchase and sale agreement for $1.9 million has been drawn up between IM Gold, which owns the club, and New England Baseball Enterprises. According to the agreement, if purchased, the land…

Indian Meadows Could Become the Home of Ruffnecks Baseball

If Northborough doesn't step in and buy the land, buyers are set to turn Indian Meadows land into baseball fields.

While its offices are in Westborough, a significant amount of Indian Meadows Golf Course's land is located in Northborough. That land could become the home of the New England Ruffnecks if the town decides not to buy it. A purchase and sale agreement for $1.9 million has been drawn up between IM Gold, which owns the club, and New England Baseball Enterprises. According to the agreement, if purchased, the land would become the home of the New England Ruffnecks, a baseball development program for children between 13-18.  New England Baseball hopes to acquire the property "for the purposes of construcing and operating a competitive baseball facility consisting of four baseball diamonds. In addition to operating tournaments at this site, it …

My biggest concern would be the watershed...will the fields be natural grass? Or artificial? If they are not natural grass i would not allow it. As far as use...keep in mind the baseball fields will be used in much the same time frame as a golf course...Closed from November to March as seasonal weather permits...Also they will be closed in the rain. It's a better choice than pavement and housing…   more ›
