The Northborough yoga studio is holding an event this weekend to help raise money for those who were affected by the storm.
The owners and instructors at Ebb 'n' Flow Yoga, like many, were talking about the Hurricane Sandy aftermath. While this area escaped without tragedy, many did not. Ebb 'n' Flow Yoga is hosting an event on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9-10:15 at the studio, running all levels of yoga classes from beginners to expert. "We decided to do a benefit after discussing how fortunate we were in Northborough compared to the flooding and outages in the midatlantic states," said Caitlin Borsini, who is an instructor at the studio. "We thought it would be nice to give something back to those communities hard hit. Yoga is good for the body and the mind, and with this fundraiser it helps others as well. The cost is $15 for a drop in and there are packages also…

While many Massachusetts residents lost power and those closer to the coast saw some flooding, the state was largely spared of catastrophic damage from Hurricane Sandy. Residents in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and other coastal areas were not so lucky. Patch has gathered some local resources if you want to help in relief efforts. If you'd like to help on a more national level, organizations such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army are accepting donations and volunteers. If getting in to the thick of the action is more your style volunteers in New York City and New Jersey are being coordinated by phone. To follow news from some of the most affected areas and see how local residents are faring, here are links to Patch sites: …

Northborough has not "canceled Halloween!"
Last year's Snowtober Nor'easter may have managed to cancel Halloween, but not this year. Hurricane Sandy will not put a damper on the festivities, as trick-or-treating is on as planned. Trick-or-treating is Wednesday, Oct. 31. While there are not set hours for Northborough, if you're like many parents of small children, you'll start them out about 6 p.m. And if you're like most, you'll wrap it up by 8 p.m. The police department suggests that: 1. Adults accompany children. 2. Costumes not hinder vision. 3. Reflectorized or light color clothing is advised. 4. Flashlights are a must! 5. Know where you’re going. 6. Never accept unwrapped candy. 7. Parents should inspect all goodies before children partake. 8…
National Grid works around the clock to bring all the power back to Northborough.
While customers still without power are undoubtedly frustrated, National Grid has restored a large portion of homes originally hit by the outage during Hurricane Sandy. The number at 10 a.m. on Wednesday sits at 674 still withouth. National Grid serves 6,559 Northborough customers. Debbie Drew, spokesperson for National Grid, said crews are out in full force working on restoration. Remaining areas without service are concentrated south of Route 20 near the Northborough border, and also close to Route 9. There are two "feeder lines" presenting trouble, said Drew, and one has approximately 500 customers on it; the other has about 100. "When one feeder gets picked up, that chunk of 500 will come back," said Drew. "That's how it will work." At…

The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Central Massachusetts.
The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for eastern Worcester County in Central Massachusetts in effect until 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Shortly after 6 p.m., radar indicated an area of showers with embedded heavy downpours tracking northwest across north central massachusetts. Rainfall of up to two inches in two hours is possible with these showers, said NWS. Ponding of water and poor drainage is expected in the area. NWS cautions driving in areas where water covers the roadway, as the depth may be too great to allow the car to cross safely. "This should not be a big deal for Shrewsbury," said Jim Arnold, weather specialist with the Shrewsbury Emergency Management Agency, "as it is not particularly …
