The latest health inspections include a trip to Mandarin Pan, Wegmans and Algonquin High School's cafeteria.
This feature on Northborough Patch lists the latest health inspections conducted by the town's Health Agent Jamie Terry. Inspections are conducted regularly, and are unannounced visits. It is important to note that Terry has often stressed that it is very rare for an establishment to always receive a perfect inspection score. Patch is able to obtain the inspection information only after it is shared with the Board of Health, after which we share the latest with our readers. The hot water was too hot. That's what earned Special Teas' one critical violation during its inspection on Feb. 13. But otherwise, the tea and sandwich shop garnered positive marks, including appropriate labeling, bulk items well-dated, the barrels were closed and …

The latest health inspections from the Northborough Health Department include a department store, nursing home and a daycare.
In early November—Nov. 7 to be exact—Terry visited the Goddard School, which had no critical violations on its report. The good inspection noted a refrigerator at 36 degrees. The restaurant had been closed for a day in July, but received a "very good" inspection this month, according to the health agent.
A series of critical violations during a health inspection last month forced Health Agent Jamie Terry to close down Sea Dog Steak & Ale for a day. Terry identified ten health code critical food violations, which included cockroaches, cross-contamination risks and stale foods, as were identified in a report filed on July 19. "I noticed cockroaches in two different locations," said Terry. Closing the establishment immediately, Advanced Pest Solutions was called right away and came in to de-fog. A follow up on July 20 revealed that there were "no visible signs of cockroach activity, and all other health code violations have been corrected." Sea Dog re-opened less than 24 hours after it was closed. "Pest control found roughly 50 cockroaches," …

The Peaslee School received three critical violations during a health inspection last month.
During a routine health inspection last month conducted by Health Agent Jamie Terry at the Peaslee School, three critical violations were noted, as Northborough Patch reported in its inspections update. Readers, particularly parents, quickly questioned the nature of these violations. The three critical violations Terry noted were: an employee cooked pasta, stirred it and tasted it with ungloved hand; the sanitizer strength exceeded acceptable levels; and a refrigerator used to store condiments and vegetables was above 41 degrees (which is the highest level it should be). Terry noted that not only were these violations not uncommon, but Maura Feeley, director of food services for the Northborough public schools, responded quickly to the …

After being closed down by the Board of Health, Great Wall made vast improvements. But with its history, even the slightest infraction brings the restaurant in danger of losing its license.
Great Wall Restaurant will again face the Board of Health, which will vote at its next meeting whether to permanently revoke the restaurant's license. After a litany of violations, the restaurant was closed down last month. It was the third time the restaurant had been closed by the Board of Health. Great Wall reopened on April 18, and Health Agent Jamie Terry said it had made vast improvements during the closing. "They had corrected all the violations that were outstanding," said Terry. "They closed so they could educate and train the staff about the serious nature of the violations in general, and those that happened specifically, so they could take appropriate measures so it doesn’t happen again." The restaurant is within a 4-6 week …

...Hey Craig its not what you think...Having the water too hot actually discourages employees from properly washing equipment and utensils along with their hands. Skin can scald at 90 degrees. We at Lalajava actually installed regulated mixing valves at our sinks to keep the water at proper temps.   more ›
