The fire station is, again, the official drop-off for toys.
Last year, residents dropped off more than 600 gifts to donate to the Toys for Tots program in Northborough. This year, Fire Captain Robert Theve hopes to meet or exceed that number. The Northborough Fire Department is, once again, the official drop off for donations to the Toys for Tots program, which is run by the USMC Reserve. New toys for donation should be non-violent, unwrapped and in the original packaging for ages 1-16. The toys can be dropped off during normal business hours through Dec. 18. Toys can also be dropped off at the Northborough Free Library and the Town Hall. Theve said that anyone in need this season should contact him at 508-393-1537 and he can talk to those in charge of the recipient list.

This piece was written, and sent, courtesy of Chef John Lawrence of Pepper's Catering “Frankenstorm” Sandy wreaked havoc and tragedy on millions of people living along the East Coast. Our hearts go out to those who lost friends and love ones. There is no doubt that it will take millions of laborers of all types and trades, to assist in bringing people’s lives back to normal. Pepper's Fine Catering got the call the day before the storm hit for a very unique corporate catering opportunity. To help workers weather the aftermath of the storm, Pepper's dispatched and mobilized to set up a temporary kitchen that would feed over 200 linemen and tree trimmers working to restore power in Western Massachusetts. A team of six were deployed to …

The scouts were out on Saturday, picking up food from Northborough residents for the annual food pantry drive.
Northborough residents stepped up to the table again, helping to put food on the table for many who are struggling right now. This past Saturday, dozens of boy, girl and Venture scouts, along with leaders and volunteers, picked up donated bags of food left out by residents in the annual Scouting for Food to benefit the Northborough Food Pantry. The drive brought in a record amount of 14,000 items, said Sarah Rothery, co-director of the pantry. The scouts and volunteers picked up the items from households, and then sorted them, bringing them to the pantry, which is now filled to capacity. "The drive brought in cereal, pasta, rice, canned goods, snack foods, condiments and other items that the food pantry makes available to the clients who …

The Northborough yoga studio is holding an event this weekend to help raise money for those who were affected by the storm.
The owners and instructors at Ebb 'n' Flow Yoga, like many, were talking about the Hurricane Sandy aftermath. While this area escaped without tragedy, many did not. Ebb 'n' Flow Yoga is hosting an event on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9-10:15 at the studio, running all levels of yoga classes from beginners to expert. "We decided to do a benefit after discussing how fortunate we were in Northborough compared to the flooding and outages in the midatlantic states," said Caitlin Borsini, who is an instructor at the studio. "We thought it would be nice to give something back to those communities hard hit. Yoga is good for the body and the mind, and with this fundraiser it helps others as well. The cost is $15 for a drop in and there are packages also…

'Anything we can do to support Christian, we’ll be happy to do it,' GM says.
When Christian Campero visits the Boston Lawnmower Company on Route 9, "it's always nice to see him," General Manager David Kennedy says. Last Monday afternoon, Campero, age 4-and-a-half, saw that four employees shaved their heads over the weekend. They did it for him. The Northborough pre-Kindergartener was diagnosed with T-Cell ALL Leukemia in August and has undergone chemotherapy "almost every day" at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, starting the day after his diagnosis, his mother, Tricia Campero, said Monday. Christian will have chemotherapy for three-and-a-half years, and cranial radiation next year, she said. The news soon reached Boston Lawnmower, where Campero said she has worked for the same owner since age 15. She…

The Nixon family knew their story might be referenced during the campaign, but during the VP debate?
When Paul Ryan called up Sheryl and Mark Nixon a few weeks ago, the Northborough couple knew the vice presidential candidate was planning to mention their story during his campaign run soon. They just didn't realize it would be that soon, and during a vice presidential debate on national TV. "That was a surprise, actually," Mark Nixon said in a phone interview last night. "I had talked with Paul Ryan earlier this week and I thought maybe they'd want to talk about this in a campaign speech. I thought it was a complex story to get across in a few seconds." That "complex story" is that the Nixons' sons, Rob and Reed, were in a car crash in 1995 that left the brothers quadriplegic, and drew Mitt Romney into their world. When Romney (then, he …
