Cooking at the High School for the Homeless [Video]

Students at Algonquin High School spent Valentine's Day preparing a meal for families in transition living in Northborough.

Valentine's Day, because you've been programmed to think this way, has long been about showing your love with flowers, candy and a card. That's all well and good. But this Valentine's Day, through a collaboration between Harvard Pilgrim, the Northborough Food Pantry and Algonquin Regional High School — and a little help from Northborough Patch — the day was about showing some love to the community. On Tuesday, Susan Halpin's class whipped up a more involved recipe, and for a larger number of people, than usual, and spiced it up in style. Halpin, who also sits on the advisory board for the Food Pantry, was impressed by the students' ability to follow through with the recipe, and coordinate the shipments. Men Are [Supposedly] Making Dinner Today

It's apparently National Men Make Dinner Day in the U.S. Are Northborough's men actively commemorating it?

Wegmans Northborough brought attention today the fact that it is indeed Men Make Dinner Day. Apparently, it is the first Thursday of November each year. Now, the fact that there is a National Men Make Dinner Day would imply that men rarely cook on other days. Is this true? From menmakedinnerday.com, the site counts the top ten reasons why men should participate: 10. While cooking, you can still wear your tool belt, simply replace the hammer with a whisk. 9. Several recipes include beer as a legitimate ingredient. 8. The blender, the electric mixer and the food processor are loud enough to drown out anyone in the house who is learning a musical instrument. 7. Growing up on Northgate Road, I don't think any of the dads cooked. That is, unless it was on the grill. Yup, the great outdoors, lighter fluid and fire, fresh air and the hibatchi!!
