Lions Honor Richard Martino With Community Service Award

The Northborough Lions Club recognized Richard Martino for his work in community service.

Submitted by the Northborough Lions Club The Northborough Lions Club is proud to recognize Dr. Richard Martino as the recipient of the Northborough Lions Club 2012 Community Service Award. Martino has been doing outreach service for the Northborough Lions Club for many years. He has been a key contributor to our sight program – a partnership with the Northborough Public School nurses, the Northborough Lions Club, and Dr. Martino’s office. When a child is identified by the school nurse as needing eye glasses, a call is made to the Lions, who then contact Dr. Martino’s office. Dr. Martino gives the child an eye exam and eye glasses, all at no cost to the child. We would like to thank Dr. Martino for his dedication to the community. In …

So, You'll Take a Couple O' Boxes, Right?

Northborough scouts plan for the annual Girl Scout Cookie sale.

With 300 Girl Scouts organized into 30 troops, that'll probably translate into a lot of cookies in Northborough.  A service unit manager for Northborough Girl Scouts, Kendra Owen is an 11-year veteran Girl Scout leader and mother to 15-year-old Bridget Owen, a member of her troop. Last year, Owen's Senior Troop 30482 sold an impressive 6,000 boxes of cookies during its sale. Senior Girl Scouts are in grades 9 and 10, and begin selling cookies on Friday, Jan. 20. There are a number of booth sales scheduled for the weekend of Jan. 20, 21 and 22 at businesses such as Eastern Mountain Sports, Wal Mart, Teamworks, local banks and pizza restaurants, according to Owen.
