I don't really feel like it's over until after New Year's. Then I have no use for winter. :-)   more ›

Assabet's Breakfast With Santa

Santa made a stop at Assabet Valley for the Immaculate Conception School Breakfast

Submitted by Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School The place to be on Saturday morning was the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School cafeteria, the site of the 2011 Immaculate Conception School “Breakfast with Santa.” Hundreds of people streamed in throughout the morning, and stayed for the fun. Rob Pierce and crew were busy in the kitchen, cooking eggs, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, and ham, while Jenn Murphy kept things running like clockwork in the main cafeteria. From face painting and tattoos to a cake walk and craft tables, the younger children were kept busy and laughing. The adults perused the beautiful gift baskets they’d like to win, all filled with donated items, from a Kuerig coffee maker or a Bose …

Gift Guide, Part II: Caffeine, Teas and Treats

Lalajava, CocBeni and Armeno Roasters all offer some unique, tasty and steaming good gifts.

It's easy enough to pick up some coffee beans, muffins, or teas at the local supermarket. But for a unique, local flair, and for those with more discerning taste on your Christmas list, we've got a few suggestions for you right here in town. According to Scott Boyers, who owns Lalajava Coffeeouse with his wife Lala Boyers, the "Old Bonez" line of T-shirts is "blowing out this year. Everyone loves them for the guys in their lives." Boyers developed and sells a line of unique, hip shirts that are available at the store, or on his website. The new tea latte mixes are also unique to Lalajava, and this line of "at-home" lattes make a classy gift. This year, Lalajava is also taking orders for "cake pops," which are flying out the door. VIDEO: Will An Excavator Fit Under the Christmas Tree? Conor Has The Key Already

The kids at Skribbles Learning Center in Northborough talk to Patch about Santa, and other stuff.

Barbies, Batman and...excavators. Those are a few things the kids at Skribbles Learning Center told Northborough Patch they'd like to receive from Santa Claus this year. Patch also learned about the intricate workings and abilities of the La La Lucy doll, another popular present for the little ones. Dinosaurs, too, top the list of desires for kids at Skribbles. And one boy simply wants "destruction workers." Listen closely, and get ready for complete cuteness overload as you watch our video of our visit at Skribbles. Many thanks to co-owner Tara Rogers and preschool teacher Nina Darling for coordinating the effort, which included coraling the kids and maintaining some order during the interviews.

POLL: What are the popular toys this year?

What are the kids asking for from Santa this year?

In the early '80s, moms were duking it out in the aisles, smashing one another with carts to get the Cabbage Patch dolls as they were unloaded. Fights have broken out over Xboxes, Elmo dolls and other hot items of the season. We needn't get that violent over securing our kids that "special toy," but we'd love to know: what are they asking for this year? Please do take our poll. While the selections are broadly-based, we hope you'll add your commentary below to tell us about specific items your kids are asking for from Santa, and you. Be sure to check Northborough Patch next week for a video with local kids telling us what they'd like for Christmas. It's a hoot, to say the least.

What Was Your Worst Christmas Gift?

We've all gotten presents we've had to feign excitement over. What were yours?

Everyone remembers the worst present they ever received. Some of them are hilarious—a rewrapped gift from a grandmother who's "losing it," a present from a youngster "made with love." Some were from people who clearly don't know you, or your tastes, at all. Some of them have been regifted. Take our poll, and be sure to share your "worst gifts" below in our comments section.
