After numerous meetings on the topic, the Board of Selectmen have voted on a BYOB policy for the town.
After discussion and a public hearing within the last few months on a BYOB (bring your own bottle) policy in Northborough, the Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 to put one in place. With the exception of restaurants or clubs that may open at Northborough Crossing, the final all-alcohol licenses are currently claimed by town establishments with the exception of two malt and wine licenses. In an effort to be proactive, months ago the board began discussing the issue on whether to adopt a policy, leave it "as is," or ban BYOB in town altogether before any businesses should ask. The Board of Selectmen holds a public hearing to discuss the BYOB policy for Northborough.
With the exception of restaurants or clubs that may open at Northborough Crossing, the final all-alcohol licenses are currently claimed by town establishments with the exception of two malt and wine licenses. Before inquiries might come in, Town Administrator John Coderre wants to make sure a policy is established, if any, regarding allowing patrons to bring their own beer and wine into a restaurant. The BYOB policy has been debated at the last two Board of Selectmen meetings, and the town has also shared a proposed draft of provisions that would apply if Northborough chooses to allow BYOB. Currently, BYOB is allowed, but Coderre said it was an appropriate time to either leave the policy as is, draft a new policy, or ban BYOB in the town. …

Northborough will soon decide whether to allow establishments without a liquor license to become a "BYOB" (bring your own bottle) establishment. Town Administrator John Coderre presented a potential BYOB policy that could be applied to restaurants in town, asking the Board of Selectmen to discuss the options. Since Northborough has hit its all alcoholic license quota for the town, and only has two beer and wine licenses available, Coderre suggested it was a good time "for the Board to consider whether or not it wishes to prohibit the practice of BYOB or draft a regulation that would allow BYOB with certain conditions." Sounds very good, and I say that as one who poked some fun at the town on this. I always worried that the Sea Dog would close up if Trombetta's could do BYOB and so, alas, they closed too early. :-) more ›
