Police Nab Two Men and One Woman After Early Morning Robbery/Assault

A man riding his bike was robbed and assaulted on Saturday morning.

An elderly man was robbed by two men while riding his bike on Pleasant Street in Northborough early Saturday morning, said Northborough police. The man had been riding his bike before 5 a.m. on Pleasant Street when he heard two doors close, and he rode past two men that were standing outside of a car. The car passed him again while he stopped to pick flowers on the side of the road, police said. The two men approached him, grabbed him, and tried to get his wallet. The victim yelled for police and during the struggle he was knocked to the ground. The men ran off and they were seen getting into a white car, which had drive past them to pick them up. After a "be on the lockout" was released to area departments, an officer from Hudson police …

I'm not surprised by this at all; not surprised that Heather attempted this feckless plot, and not surprised that she failed miserably at it. I feel bad for her dad, though, who is an honest and hard working man; a real good guy. And I feel bad for the "unnamed juvenile" who is learning all the wrong stuff, and how to do it badly.   more ›

Turtle, Absentee Juror Prompt Police Action

Additionally, one town gave us plenty of fodder for what could have been an entire unusual police news column.

If he had just gone to court the first time, this wouldn't have happened. A Fitchburg man found himself on the wrong side of the bar in Westborough District Court this week when he was arrested for failing to appear for jury duty. When police pulled him over for failing to stop/yield, they found that he was wanted for skipping out on jury duty. No doubt his trip to court as a defendant will be less pleasant—and more expensive—than if he had simply shown up for jury duty. Why did the turtle cross the road? In Shrewsbury, he crossed the road because if he had stayed in the middle of it, he would have continued to block traffic. Shrewsbury police recently were called to Grafton Street to remove the turtle from the road, as cars were backing …

Can a Disney Princess be Too Sexy?

Changes in the appearance of the animated starlet in Brave have created some backlash toward Disney.

Less than a year after the release of Disney's Brave, the show's leading lady Merida has been invited to join the rank of Disney princesses. According to Boston.com, however, the move doesn't come without changes to the character that left some upset. "Disney has unleashed a nation of protective mama bears, and they're furious about the makeovers Disney Princesses get once they become consumer products: exaggerated doe eyes, kissable lips, rising cheekbones and off-the-shoulder dresses," Boston.com reports. What do you think about Disney's changes to Merida? Do you think making her a princess takes away some of her appeal? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

State House News Service Weekly Roundup: Three's Company

Recap and analysis of the week in state government.

Like pieces of a puzzle that don't quite fit together yet, the Big Three may have been separated at birth, but with each incremental step their destinies seem to grow more intertwined. No, we're not talking about those Big Three - Gov. Deval Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray and Speaker Robert DeLeo - though they play major character roles in this thickening plot.  Instead, three bills have come to define the early months of the 2013 legislative agenda and resolutions on tax hikes, local road funding and the annual state budget continue to be elusive and dependent on one another. Patrick spent the early part of his week welcoming British Prime Minister David Cameron to Boston for a few quick meetings and a visit to the Copley …
