Looking to safely turn in a gun?

Northborough Police will refer you to the Worcester Police's annual "Goods for Guns" gun buyback program, set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy said Tuesday.

Community members can bring their weapon unloaded, wrapped in a bag, on their car's front seat, to the Worcester Police station, at 9-11 Lincoln Square, where they'll get a gift card to a local merchant.

Northborough Police will share the news of the program, and refer people to it, to help community members "get weapons out of their house that they may not have any use for (or) they may have inherited," Leahy said.

In Northborough, "weapons in a home may be a target for a home burglary," he said.

"They do get stolen when homes get broken into," he said.

This year's gun buy back program coincides with the first anniversary of the Newtown, Conn. tragedy.
