Will I fit in??

"What if I don't fit in?"

It was the question my daughter, a third grader, asked right before she climbed aboard the school bus at the start of this school year.  Not only was it a new school year, but it was one in a new town, a new state, with new faces and new routines.  And it was a question I grappled with myself.

Here I am...a married woman, a mom of two school-aged children, with friends that I've had for over twenty years and approaching a certain milestone age... and I'm still wondering if I'll fit in.  There's "new" all around me...from the school my children attend to the supermarket I shop in, the job I recently started to the temporary living arrangements at my mother's house.  There's new everywhere I turn these days, and I wonder if I'll find my place in any of it and feel like I fit in.

It's not easy feeling like you're an outsider.  it's not like I can go up to a random woman in the supermarket and ask her to play with me like I'm sure my daughter did on that first day of school.  She came home with stories about new friends.  I'm still struggling to find my place.  I've taken baby steps and started volunteering for activities through the schools and the scouts.  I've met some amazing men and women, but still that feeling of not fitting in lingers.

I guess that's the reason for the blog.  Northborough through the eyes of someone new to town.  A unique perspective.  Perhaps sharing my adventures here in this great, little town will help me find me place.  I'm looking forward to whatever comes my way!!!
