Walk with me....

There's a sense of fun and adventure in exploring a new town.  There's new schools, new stores, new restaurants, and new faces.  Prior to our move to Northborough, our car met it's demise and we hadn't yet replaced it so our first months exploring our new town were done on foot.  This was a unique and wonderful experience that I would suggest to anyone looking to see their surroundings in a new light.

We moved here in August and spent those first few weekends taking random streets just to see where we'd end up.  Along the way we discovered things I'm sure we would have just zoomed past in our car: a Christmas tree farm, an old grange building/school house, a pizza place with the best Russian Pastrami Pizza (this according to my husband), and a wonderful little candy store.  My mother, who has lived here for over two years, had noticed few of the discoveries we made and was amazed by the things she'd missed from the front seat of her car.

My favorite discovery was one I know that we never would have made from a car.  Apparently Northborough is filled with wonderful hiking trails.  They're all over the place.  I knew this from my trips to the library where they loan out a backpack with everything one would need for a day hiking a trail, but I never anticipated finding one that started directly across the street from where we are living.  It's like a world apart, stepping off the main road and into the woods where things are hushed, twigs crack, leaves rustle, and wonders appear around every corner.

Yes, my fellow Northboroughians (Northborough-ites?), it's time to get out of the car, walk the streets, and explore this town to it's fullest!  I know that even now, with a car, I still scope out the streets for sidewalks and pathways because I know that once this snow melts away, our walking season will begin again.
