Westborough Ends Algonquin's Girls Soccer Season

Westborough advances to the state Division 1 semi-final, at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Westfield State University. The Rangers will play the West champion. The winner advances to the final.

The Algonquin Regional High School varsity girls soccer team lost to Westborough. 2-0, in the 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Soccer Central Division 1 final at Wachusett, in Holden.

Algonquin head coach Scot Taggart congratulated Westborough for playing "a great game."

“It just didn’t go our way today," he said.

"It was a great season. I’m very proud of my seniors. They led the team very well all year long. I’m disappointed for them.”

The Rangers (15-1-2 regular season) were seeded first in the 10-team tournament. Algonquin (13-2-3) was seeded third.

Saturday's game was the second between Westborough and Algonquin this fall.

Algonquin defeated Westborough, 4-3, at WHS on Oct. 19, according to the Midland-Wachusett League website.
