Westborough Defeats Algonquin on Thanksgiving

The visiting Rangers won, 31-7.

The Westborough High School varsity football team hoisted a trophy before grabbing some turkey.

The visiting Rangers defeated Algonquin, 31-7, on Thanksgiving morning.

Hall of Fame coaches Joe Mewhiney and Dick Walsh then presented Westborough with the Thanksgiving Day trophy that bears their names.

Westborough (3-8) led throughout the game.

The Rangers took a 7-0 lead with 1:07 left in the first quarter, on senior Scott Erickson's 11-yard touchdown run, and senior Jack Chuma's kick.

The lead became 14-0 with 8:33 left in the first half, on senior tri-captain/quarterback Dan Orlando's five-yard pass to senior Mike Power, and a Chuma kick.

Algonquin (2-9) cut the lead to 14-7 with 6:47 left, on senior tri-captain Tim Keville's 10-yard pass to senior Ben Jachowicz, and Jachowicz's kick.

Orlando's 28-yard pass to junior Michael Heffernan, and Chuma's kick, with 3:26 left put the Rangers ahead 21-7.

Westborough closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter: Chuma hit a 42-yard field goal, and Orlando ran for a three-yard touchdown, with Chuma kicking the extra point.
