Tomahawks Boys Soccer Season Ends in Double OT

Westborough now will face Wachusett in the district final, at 5 p.m. Saturday at Wachusett.

The Algonquin Regional High School varsity boys soccer team's season ended with a 1-0 loss to Westborough in double overtime Wednesday night.

WHS senior Jamie Plowman scored with four minutes left in the second overtime, on a throw-in from senior Dan Feigelman, WHS head coach John Hillier said. Sophomore keeper Griffin Barry earned his eighth shutout.

The 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Soccer Central Division 1semi-final was played at Nashoba. 

Westborough now will face Wachusett in the final, at 5 p.m. Saturday at Wachusett.

Saturday's winner advances to the state semi-final against a Western Mass. team, WHS Director of Athletics Johanna DiCarlo said Thursday.

Westborough (14-1-3 regular season) is seeded first in the 12-team tournament, earning a first-round bye. Algonquin (10-5-3) is seeded fifth. 

Third-seeded Wachusett (12-4-2) defeated seventh-seeded Groton-Dunstable, 2-1, on penalty kicks in the semi-finals at Worcester's Foley Stadium on Wednesday night.

Westborough defeated Wachusett, 3-1, at home on Sept. 17, the teams' only matchup this season, according to the Midland-Wachusett League website.
