K-9 Search at Algonquin Finds No Drugs

The announced search yielded no drug findings at the high school; plans are underway for an unannounced search.

This morning at 9:45 a.m., five members of the Massachusetts State
Police K-9 Unit, accompanied by Northborough and Southborough
Police Officers and school administrators, conducted a search of
Algonquin Regional High School for the presence of illegal drugs, said Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy in a press release.

Five State Police narcotics detection dogs, each paired with a school administrator and police officer, were used and the entire search took 16 minutes to accomplish.

"I am very pleased to report that no illegal drugs were found, either inside the school building or in vehicles parked in the school parking lots," said Leahy. For quality assurance, test drugs were concealed in a specific locker to test each dog’s skills. Each of the five dogs properly (and separately) alerted on the locker where the test sample was placed."

Leahy thanked Algonquin Principal Thomas Mead and Superintendent of Schools Charles Gobron "for their support and cooperation, as well as the staff and
students at Algonquin. Through ongoing collaboration we can continue to ensure that Algonquin Regional High School remains a safe and secure environment for both our children and the dedicated staff."

Leahy added that, as promised, plans for an unannounced search have already begun.

This could very easily turn into operation chaos if a student slipped small amounts of drugs into dozens of lockers...how do you prove the drugs in your locker weren't yours?
