Many local area students are in the final stages of preparing for the MetroWest Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Concert to be held on Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. at the MassBay Community College Wellesley Campus. The MetYSO is a nonprofit music education program which provides dedicated young musicians with advanced orchestral training. It is comprised of three groups, the Youth Orchestra, a Repertory Ensemble, and a Youth Wind Ensemble.

Among these talented musicians is Ethan McRae, 14, from Northborough. McRae plays the oboe and has been a member of the MetroWest Youth Symphony Orchestra since September 2011. He also is a musician at Algonquin Regional High School where he is in ninth grade.

McRae is just one of the 60 or so members of the MetYSO. Representing more than 30 area towns and with a diverse membership, it offers these students a challenging and supportive environment in which to nurture their love of music. More information is available at metyso.org.
