Smoking Banned at 6 Properties in Northborough

No more lighting up at the Senior Center or the DPW.

As part of an evolving set of smoking regulations instituted in the town of Northborough, Health Agent Jamie Terry recently announced that six properties have now adopted the changes.

Smoking is now prohibited on the properties of the Northborough Free Library, the Senior Center, Police Station, the Fire Station and the DPW.

The memo indicated to directors that signs would be posted and that any ash tray units should be removed from the property.

"As for compliance and enforcement of this portion of the regulation, I believe that education and guidance to the residents that utilize these public properties is the best first approach," Terry wrote. "By example, if a resident is smoking at the Senior Center, an employee can merely inform the resident of the newly adopted Northborough Board of Health regulation.  If the resident is dissatisfied or continues to disobey the regulation you can ask them to contact me directly (or you can contact me directly). "

She noted that Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy has agreed to have the Police assist with enforcement of this regulation should the need arise.
