One Town Meeting Article Passes, the Other Fails

Voters OK a temporary moratorium on large-scale solar farms, reject removing the ZBA's use variance granting authority.

Northborough now has a temporary moratorium on large-scale solar farms, until May 1, 2014.

Voters approved the measure, proposed by a citizen's petition, at Monday night's special town meeting, held in the Algonquin Regional High School auditorium.

Also, voters defeated a proposal, by citizen's petition, to remove the zoning board of appeals' authority to grant use variances.

The final vote, after a count, was 84 for and 151 against, Town Moderator Fred George said.

Both measures required approval by a two-thirds' majority to pass.
