Mohsen Mahmoud, who has owned in Times Square in Northborough for 19 years, says he's never sold so many Mega Millions tickets as within the past week. Although the store specializes in Middle Easter cuisine and gourmet food, Mahmoud's had a steady stream of customers picking up their numbers for the big game and spending $60 to $100 a pop in many cases.

"It's the craziest I've ever seen it," said Mahmoud.

According to the Mega Millions site, The Mega Millions jackpot has reached historic proportions and surpassed the previous record. Now, with no jackpot winner on Tuesday, the jackpot for Friday, March 30, at an estimated $500 million is "the largest lottery jackpot in world history, surpassing the previous record of $390 million."

A blog on thedailyfinance.com suggests that lottery players may be "the biggest fools." In fact, the article states that "with 1.3% of personal income going to its state lottery, Massachusetts is number one for players."

"I always say, 'It's stupid to do and it's stupid if you don't,'" said Mahmoud. "It takes one number to win $500 million. If God sends it to you, you're the winner."

The drawing takes place at 11 p.m. on Friday.
