Downtown Update: Cooler Temps Move Paving to Daytime

The Downtown Improvement Project update includes a message urging motorists to seek alternate routes this week.

Information on the Downtown Improvement Project, courtesy of the town of Northborough, as of Oct. 12

  • IMPOTANT NOTICE: Due to cooler night time temperatures the installation of the base pavement along the entire length of the project is now scheduled during the day for Tuesday, Oct. 16, Wednesday, Oct. 17 and Thursday, Oct. 18. Drivers should expect significant delays and backups as a result of this paving schedule. While accommodations will be made for local traffic as much as possible, detours and alternate routes will be recommended in order to minimize traffic congestion and driver frustration.
  • Week of Oct. 22: A very small amount of curbing still remains unfinished and will be completed as the utility pole conflicts are resolved. Installation of the concrete for the sidewalks and the adjustment of castings for utility structures will continue. Some work in the area of the railroad crossing is expected to start this week but the actual start date for the replacement of the railroad crossing is still unknown at this time. The contractor will be finishing the driveway approaches and start to cleanup and install loam and seed before the winter season.
  • Please contact MassDOT resident engineer, Angela Padavano at 774- 292-2076 with any questions or concerns regarding the Downtown Traffic Improvements.

  • Residents should also be aware the milling, resurfacing and pavement markings work, which started in April at the westerly end of Route 20 near the intersection with Route 9 is complete. The final course of asphalt is now complete in the roadway. Final pavement markings are underway and should be completed very soon.
