Police are warning Northborough residents of a phone scam where the caller indicates that a family member has been in an accident and is being held hostage.
In recent cases in Northborough, the calls are coming from a 617 area code, and the suspect requests $1,000 to prevent further harm to the family member.
Anyone who has fallen victim to the scam should call police at 508-393-1515.
