Police Reminder: Winter Rules and Regulations

Make sure you know the town's snowy laws.

The following was issued by the Northborough Police Department

The Northborough Police Department reminds you of winter season issues,
addressed in the as addressed in the “Town of Northborough Municipal Code:”

Shovel your sidewalk

Chapter 2-44-100, “Snow and ice removal from
sidewalks,” states: “The owner or person having care of any property abutting on any sidewalk shall, within six (6) hours after any accumulation of snow cause the same to be removed therefrom and shall, if such sidewalk becomes icy or otherwise slippery, cause the same to be covered with sand or other suitable substance,” $50 fine (§2-44-120)

Don't throw your snow into the street

Chapter 4-08-010, titled “Prohibited activity,” states: “No person shall displace snow from privately owned land onto a public way.” $50.00 fine (§4-08-020)

Don't park on the street overnight during these months

Chapter 9-92-020, “Winter parking ban,” states: “No person shall park a vehicle on either side of any street in the Town of Northborough between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m., effective from the period Dec. 1 through March 31.” $50.00 fine (§9-112-020)

If your car is in the way ...

Chapter 5-04-010, “Authorization,” states: “The Superintendent of Streets or other officer having charge of public ways in the town is authorized, for the purpose of removing or plowing snow or removing ice from any public street or way in the town, to remove or cause to be removed to some convenient place, including in such term a public garage, any vehicle interfering with such work.”

§5-04-020 states “The town may impose upon the owner of such vehicle removed pursuant to § 5-04-010 hereof liability for the cost of such removal and for the storage charges, if any, resulting therefrom.”
