Northborough Man Charged with Breaking Into Former Antique Store

A man living in Northborough is accused of breaking into a building on Hudson Street.

A Northborough man has been charged with B&E and malicious destruction of property after allegedly breaking into a former antique shop at 55 Hudson St. on Sunday.

Emilio Antonio Rosales, 36, 219 Hudson St, Apt: 2, Northborough, was arrested and charged with B&E in the daytime for a felony, malicious destruction of property over $250.

After receiving calls from the building's neighbors, police responded to Hudson Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. A caller said that it sounded like someone was "hatcheting the rear door of the building."

The door jamb had been splintered and the glass pane to the right of the door was shattered.

"I could hear the broken glass that was still in the window pane settling and falling, indicating that it had been broken not long before my arrival," police wrote in the incident report.

Officers cleared the vacant building, and there didn't "appear to be anything of value inside."

Police followed a license plate lead to a resident in Westborough, who had the car registered in her name, but let Rosales drive it. The owner of the car confirmed that Rosales kept the car at his house in Northborough, where police found Rosales. Both he and his son fit the description of the burglar. Denying the break to police, Rosales said he had been to a laundry store on Pierce Street, Algonquin Regional High School and Burger King that day.

Rosales showed police a Guatemalan passport that did not have any immigration stamps on it, and does not have a Massachusetts driver's license.

Taking photos of the car back to the witness, she confirmed that it was Rosales who had broken into the property.

On Monday, police questioned Rosales again, during which he admitted that he broke the window to the building with a bar.

"He said he went into the building, turned on the light switch, to see if there was electricity," according to police. "He told me that he did not touch anything inside and that he did not leave with anything from the building. At first he said he was looking at the house because he thought it was for sale. He later said he did not know if anyone was living in the building. He didn't give a reason for why he did not knock."
