FBI Report: Violent Crime Reports Up by 1 in Northborough

There were 16 violent crimes reported in 2012, up from 15 in 2011, according to the report.

Violent crime reported in Northborough was up by one in 2012 compared to a spike in 2011, according to new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the report, 16 violent crimes were reported in 2012, up from the 15 reported in 2011 and than the 10 reported in 2010

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. 

Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

The town's reported number of violent crimes puts Northborough safely in the lower end among cities and towns in the Bay State. Not surprisingly, Boston tops the list with 5,266 violent crimes, while other cities Worcester, Springfield, Brockton and New Bedford round out the top five. 

According to the statistics, one murder was reported in Northborough in 2012. Other crimes included no forcible rapes, no robberies, 15 aggravated assaults, 36 burglaries and 142 instances of larceny or theft.
