DA's Office Investigating Allegations Against Gemme

The Worcester County District Attorney's office is investigating allegations that Fr. Stephen Gemme stole $230,000 from the St. Bernadette Parish and school, according to Tim Connolly, spokesman for the district attorney's office.

Gemme resigned last Thursday from his position as pastor of the Roman Catholic church, at 266 Main St., the Rev. Robert J. McManus,  bishop of Worcester, said in a letter to the parish this weekend.

Gemme has been on a medical leave of absence since July.

The bishop said Fr. Gemme has "met with me and acknowledged a gambling problem."
