Belmont Street Standoff Ends With Surrender

A 9-1-1 call reporting an assault on Belmont Street ultimately led to police negotiating with the suspect to throw his weapon "out the door and surrender" on Thursday, Northborough Police said.

A 9-1-1 call reporting an assault on Belmont Street ultimately led to police negotiating with the suspect to throw his weapon "out the door and surrender" on  Thursday, Northborough Police said in a press release Thursday night.

Police charged Jose Aguilar, 32, with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count each of: attempted murder, assault with intent to murder, domestic assault and battery, kidnapping, possession of a large capacity feeding device, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Police said they received a 9-1-1 call at 2:07 p.m. Thursday from a Belmont Street resident stating that her neighbor "had been physically assaulted by her domestic partner," Aguilar, and he "also threatened her with an assault-style rifle."

Some police officers got the victim to safety, while others looked for Aguilar.

Police ultimately found Aguilar, negotiated with him, and arrested him after he threw his gun outside.

Police said the gun was "a highly accurate assault weapon replica Air-Soft pellet gun with no orange safety tip on the barrel."

A Northborough Fire Department ambulance took the victim to a Worcester hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life threatening, police said.

Aguilar, meanwhile, complained of chest pains, and was taken by a second Northborough Fire ambulance to a different Worcester hospital.

Northborough Police detectives "continue to interview both subjects," police said.

Northborough firefighters, and State Police, Westborough Police and Shrewsbury Police assisted Northborough Police.
