I have mixed emotions on this one. I am no fan of crime, but I gotta admire the cheekiness of the thief a little bit. And then I wonder about the necessity of all that exterior copper.....that we taxpayers are still paying for. Lastly, is this covered by insurance? Cheers!

I agree Dan....but let us not forget the police force/private army you as taxpayers are also paying for.

Hubris....is the term I was looking for.

Hubris…overweening pride. To use quality, long-lasting materials on a civic building is hubris? To have a police force is hubris? I don't understand the reasoning here.

Taxing people for show rather than need is. Admitting there are too many empty properties in town so water rates need to be jacked, while having copper downspouts carrying waste water is. Having a police force capable of waging a war...yet unable to deter/catch thieves stealing metal off a town building in downtown....is.
Prometheus January 23, 2014 at 09:54 AM
And exactly how are those long lasting building materials working for you just now?

Prometheus, have you considered running for Northborough office? It's a great way to work toward change.
Prometheus January 23, 2014 at 10:06 AM
Problem with someone having a critical opinion Gelb? Or just critical of me because I am critical of you? Either way is fine. Just curious.
Michael Gelbwasser (Editor) January 23, 2014 at 10:23 AM
Not at all, Prometheus. You sound like you're firm in your beliefs, and I respect that. I think communities benefit from public debate, because it holds officials accountable. How can change happen if the same people always hold office? And, who said you were critical of me?

I did and I am.

The "office" doesn't let newbies in. When newbies are rarely accepted in; there outburst for change is never listened too. Very frustrating. Two Selectmen seats will be Available this May... Possibly ZBA and planning board Let's try and get NEW people in!

Two seats which can affect development -- one each on the board of selectmen and the planning board -- will be open this spring, as the incumbents aren't running. Running for office is one way to promote change.

Rand is up to... So two people could run
Lynne Rowe Derosier January 24, 2014 at 06:36 AM
Rose, what is Rand up to?
Rose Francis C January 26, 2014 at 11:45 AM
Hi Lynne, I believe her time is up and someone can choose to run against her...
Lynne Rowe Derosier January 27, 2014 at 06:39 AM
You meant too, not to. Now I understand.

Yes. My original post dated 1-23-2014 @10:41 stated: Two Selectmen seats will be Available this May... Possibly ZBA and planning board Let's try and get NEW people in!
