5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 21 [Video]

Be sure to reserve your tickets for the Winter Ball, which is right around the corner. Also, get your soft soled shoes for the contra dance tonight!

Our morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Tickets are on sale now for the Northborough Community Affair Committee's Annual Winter Ball, happening at the end of January at Organizers urge folks to reserve their tickets by this weekend. The easiest way? Stop by o pick up your tickets. At $50 each, it includes appetizers, dinner and dessert.  You can reserve a table for 10 by emailing your list of names to Virginia at simmsie@aol.com. The event also includes a silent auction, as well as live music by the band Radiance.

2. Drop off your gently-used winter coats at for those in need.

5. The is back. Tonight. These dances happen once a month (October through May) at the Unitarian Universalist Church right here in town. According to Ken Bennett, a contra dance regular, "there are maybe 10 to more separate dances lasting around 10 minutes apiece." Here is a dance from Northborough's Dec. 17 contra dance posted by Don Veino, the caller, which shows the first seven minutes of a typical dance.
